Booking a taxi in Rochester NY

Booking a taxi in Rochester NY

Rochester NY is one of the four large metropolitan areas in the State of New York. Commuting within the City of Rochester is not as easy as in a place like New York City.
Rochester does not have a subway train system and public transportation by bus is very limited:
That leaves the bulk of transportation to taxicabs. The city has several taxi cab companies ranging from taxi fleets of one to the largest with about 120 cars.

The quickest way to get a taxi and to make sure it actually shows up at a desired time is to schedule a pick up at least a couple of hours ahead of time or better one day before you intend to use a taxi and set up a time call. It's free to set up such a time call. This will enable the taxi dispatcher to set aside a cab for you at that particular time. Though taxi drivers are required to stop if a person flags them, this practice does not work well in Rochester as it does in New York City. Most of the time a cab passing by is already on its way to pick up a caller.

Taxicabs that are not booked usually have a parking area where taxi drivers wait for the dispatcher to assign them a job.

The easiest way to get connected with a taxi company is of course by dialing 411 (directory assistance) or by doing a simple search on the internet. There are companies such as Rochester Taxi Cab 585 672 5593, Rochester Metro Taxi 585 285 5316, Rochester Metro Taxi Cab,...

Taxi fares are regulated by the City Council and go for 50 cents for every one sixth of a mile and 21 dollars each hour. Each extra person pays two dollars no matter the length of the trip.
All taxi companies accept the fare to be paid in Cash. If you want to use a different payment method, it is better to check with the dispatcher when booking to ake sure that method is accepted.
